I have been part of the Somerset Churches Together Marquee (Sanctuary) for several
years. The primary function of the tent is to provide a resting place for the festival
goers enabling them to drop out of the festival for an hour or two. The festival
can get very tiring and testing especially in wet wether. At night we create a sleeping
space for about 100 people who are no longer able to use their own arrangements .
About 80 volunteers supervise this service 24 hours a day for the whole festival.
In the afternoons a team provide art activities for the festival goers mainly angled
towards the growing number of children and families at the festival. These include
face painting, rubbish sculpture, (tree right) music, story telling, garden games, and
painting, As well as all of this there are Christian services of all denominations
throughout the festival time, There is a Christian presence at the festival involving
many other organisations.
